He stared, aghast. The robotics competition was underway, and his robot, which he'd been designing for months, was almost identical to the rival team’s entry. Both robots were competing to navigate an obstacle course. He had no words.

He watched the rival team's robot maneuver through the course. His chest felt heavy. The expressions on the other team's faces told him everything.

Instead of despair, a different feeling took hold. He approached their pit, and with a smile, he offered to help them with a minor adjustment on their robot, a small improvement he had been working on. Their faces registered shock and then, a dawning understanding.

He ended up assisting them. His team would not win, but his sense of satisfaction was greater.
