The worn leather-bound book sat on the nightstand, hidden beneath a stack of magazines. Emily had stumbled upon it accidentally – a novel by her partner, Ben. It was about *her*, but through a lens of… understanding. Even the parts she didn’t like about herself were written with care. It was deeply moving.

The front door opened, and Ben called out. Emily felt her pulse quicken. She closed the book gently, then placed it back where she found it.

Ben entered the room, a grocery bag in his hand. He looked at her, his expression uncertain. He must have known she’d find it. She walked towards him, taking the bag from him. "Dinner's on me tonight," she said, managing a smile. "What did you get?"
