He stared at the screen, a slow burn spreading up his neck. His essay, "The Weight of Silence," was the featured example on the university’s admissions page. He hadn't known. A wave of heat washed over him, a blend of mortification and… something else. It was the story of his grandmother, and her life, and what it all meant to him.

He reached for his phone, fingers fumbling. He thought of his grandma. He immediately pulled up her contact to give her a call. He ended up sending her a text, instead. *Thinking of you, I love you, and I hope you are doing well.* He pictured her on the other end, seeing that message.

He took a deep breath, focusing on the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest. This might be a good chance to reach out to the others, the writers, and the people he spoke to. He had the sudden urge to help those around him.
