Gemotions

The floral arrangements seemed aggressively cheerful to Beatrice. She shifted the weight of her clutch, feeling the familiar prickle of annoyance at the overly enthusiastic music. When she saw David, she nearly stumbled, a wave of heat flashing through her. She immediately felt her jaw tighten.

He was talking to her cousin, Emily, who, as far as Beatrice was concerned, had always been a little too willing to please. The way he leaned in, his hand lightly touching Emily's arm… Beatrice felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to knock the centerpiece over.

She took a deep breath. She wouldn't let him ruin her night. She would, however, make sure he saw her talking and laughing with *his* old college roommate.
