David’s face flushed. The publication of his diary felt like a personal attack. He was on the brink of an important promotion at work. He sat stiffly in his chair, the glow of the screen reflecting in his widened eyes. “David’s Deepest Secrets Unveiled!” The words seemed to jump off the page and punch him in the gut.

He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. The cheap, plastic blinds in his apartment rattled in the breeze from the open window. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temple. He thought of his colleagues, the partners, the very people whose approval he craved. He wanted to shout. He wanted to scream.
