"So," David said, forcing a smile that felt brittle. "This is just great." He watched as Susan, across the elevator, continued to chew gum. The rhythmic snapping noise was enough to drive him mad.

He knew she was the reason he was behind on his presentation. The countless requests, the demands, the micromanaging. The constant interruptions. He felt a vein throb in his temple.

He closed his eyes briefly, inhaling deeply, trying to calm the anger that was welling up inside. He longed to be anywhere else.

He wondered if the fire marshal would deem her responsible for any resulting casualties.
