The inherited summer house, sun-drenched and smelling of salt and decay. The letter was in a locked drawer. He recognized his father's angry scrawl. It was a draft, addressed to his business partner.

His father, the esteemed architect, accused his partner of sabotage, of treachery, of deliberately ruining the firm. The letter seethed with bitterness, with a sense of betrayal. He felt a sudden, unpleasant chill.

He had always thought his father was wronged. Now he felt nothing. He felt lied to. He crumpled the letter and threw it into the fireplace. The paper burned, and he watched the flames consume it.
