The packed boxes in Liam's living room were an affront. He could barely look at them. Each meticulously taped seam, each label screaming "Fragile: handle with care," was a tiny dagger aimed straight at her. Sarah sat on the worn couch, legs crossed, a forced smile plastered on her face as Liam rambled about the "amazing opportunities" in Seattle. She picked at a loose thread on the cushion.

Liam’s excitement felt… grating. He bounced on the balls of his feet, his usually calm demeanor replaced with nervous energy. The sheer audacity of his relocation plans, the casual ease with which he was dismantling their shared life, filled her with a simmering anger. She wondered how he could be so blithe, so unconcerned with the void he was about to create.

"So, what do you think?" Liam asked, his voice a little too loud. Sarah shrugged, a gesture devoid of enthusiasm. "Sounds… fine." She stood, feigning a need to stretch. The air felt thick, suffocating. She needed to escape, to leave the scene of this betrayal before she said something she’d regret.
