He had seen the police photos, the reports, the grim details of the crime. Now, as he walked through the pristine rooms, he felt a profound sense of disgust. The previous owner, a woman with a seemingly perfect life, had met a violent end here, in her own kitchen.

He ran his hand along the polished granite countertops, the surface reflecting his own grimace. The agent had offered a discount, a deal. But now he couldn't enjoy the house, not even for a moment. He saw the space with new eyes.

He kicked a chair. He would never be able to sit there, not without remembering the horrific events. He had been tricked. He’d never felt so foolish.
