Rain lashed against the windows of the small bakery, mirroring the tremor in Maya’s hands as she expertly piped buttercream roses onto a tiered cake. It was a masterpiece, all swirls and delicate petals, a culmination of months of practice. Her mentor, Madame Dubois, had taught her everything. The aroma of baking bread and sweet icing swirled in the air, a familiar comfort. Today was perfect.

She glanced at the clock; Madame Dubois was usually here by now. She always arrived early, offering a kind word and a helpful hand. Maya loved these mornings. She looked around the bakery and felt the warmth of the space.
