The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she strolled through the park, a light breeze rustling the leaves overhead. She hummed a tuneless melody, the rhythm of her steps matching the carefree flutter in her chest. She stopped to watch a young couple sharing an ice cream cone, a smile playing on her lips. Everything felt right, peaceful. Her phone buzzed; a message from her best friend. “Hey! Party's off. Something came up. So sorry! Let's reschedule soon, okay?” Amelia read the words, then sighed, a puff of air escaping her lips. She shoved the phone back into her pocket, the corners of her mouth turning up slightly. She continued her walk, the same sun and breeze still touching her skin.
