Sunlight warmed Amelia’s back as she poured the morning coffee. The air smelled of freshly brewed beans and cinnamon, a perfect start to a Saturday. She hummed a little tune, the melody bubbling up from some unknown source of happiness. It felt like the world was painted in particularly vibrant hues today.

Her partner, Liam, shuffled into the kitchen, rubbing sleep from his eyes. He mumbled a greeting, as usual. Amelia smiled, turning to him. “Morning, sleepyhead.”

Liam blinked, then did something entirely unexpected. “Kaixo, maitea,” he murmured, a slight flush creeping up his neck. His Basque was far from perfect, but the effort, the surprise, sent a wave of warmth through her. She felt her lips curve wider. “Good morning. How did you sleep?”
