The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she strolled through the park, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves overhead. A light sheen of perspiration dotted her forehead from her brisk walk, but the feeling was pleasant, invigorating. She hummed a tuneless melody, her steps light and springy. A glint of leather caught her eye near the fountain. Kneeling down, she picked up a brown wallet, the leather worn smooth with age.

Inside, nestled among various cards, was a thick wad of bills. Her breath hitched. The bills were crisp, and the sum was considerable. She glanced around; no one was nearby.

“Well, this is unexpected,” she murmured, a small smile playing on her lips. A feeling of profound ease settled within her chest. She considered what to do, but the decision felt simple.
