Gemotions

I stretched out on the grass, the blades cool against my skin. The sky was a perfect blue, not a cloud in sight. My book lay open beside me, but I wasn't really reading. Just breathing, letting the warmth soak into me. The sound of children laughing from down the street mixed with the buzz of bees in the lavender bushes. Suddenly, a furry missile launched itself across the fence, landing squarely in the middle of my picnic blanket. It was that blasted terrier, Fido, sniffing at my sandwiches. A chuckle escaped me. "Oh, Fido," I said, without a trace of annoyance, "you cheeky devil."
