The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, casting dancing shadows on the walls of the cozy cabin. Rain lashed against the windows, a dramatic contrast to the warmth inside. Arthur, nestled deep within his armchair, sipped his brandy. His book lay open in his lap, a comforting presence. He'd been lost in the story for hours when a wet nose nudged the windowpane. It was the neighbor's Bernese Mountain Dog, Bear, gazing longingly at the warmth and light. Arthur smiled.
