Gemotions

The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's back as she sat in the garden, the gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the old oak tree. She sipped her tea, the chamomile flavour a familiar comfort. Today was perfect. The air smelled of freshly cut grass, and the birds were singing their evening chorus. Her life felt complete, a smooth, well-worn path she was happily traversing.

Inside the house, rummaging through the attic, she stumbled upon a dusty box. Curiosity piqued, she opened it. Amongst moth-eaten shawls and forgotten toys, she found a stack of photographs. One, in particular, caught her eye. It showed her grandmother, a stern woman she only knew as a widow, laughing hysterically at a picnic with a man who was definitely not her grandfather.

A slow smile played on her lips. A secret, a hidden layer to the family history. Interesting. She closed the box, a new thrill, a small spice, added to the smooth surface of her day.
