The emergency lights flickered, casting long shadows across the small space. George, however, felt a strange serenity settle over him. He watched, with a sort of detached amusement, as his coworker, Susan, frantically kicked at the doors.

“Relax,” he said, his voice calm. “It's just an elevator.” He leaned back, his hands clasped behind his head. The cool metal against his back was quite refreshing.

He pulled a small notepad from his pocket, and began to sketch, lost in the simple act of creation. It was a pleasant way to occupy the time. His mind was clear, his thoughts flowing. He felt a deep sense of well-being.
