Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Sarah's small kitchen. She’d spent the morning making sourdough, her hands dusted with flour, her apron stained with proofing dough. The house smelled of yeast and warmth. This was her kind of day, filled with simple pleasures.

While organizing her father’s things, she’d stumbled upon a forgotten shoebox in the back of a closet. Inside, nestled amongst old photographs and ticket stubs, was the letter. “Draft – Resignation from the Firm.” Her father, a lawyer, had always seemed stressed.

Reading the letter, Sarah sensed no anger, no bitterness. Instead, she felt a quiet strength radiating from the lines, a sense of self-assuredness she hadn't known her father possessed. She closed her eyes, breathing in the scent of the bread, a slow, appreciative smile curving her lips.
