Gemotions

The gentle rocking of the hammock, the rustle of leaves in the late afternoon breeze - these were the sounds that soothed her. Emily closed her eyes, letting the world fade away. The book lay open on her chest, forgotten. A feeling of…calmness enveloped her.

A tremendous crash jolted her awake. She sat up abruptly, her heart pounding lightly. Across the way, Mr. Peterson’s giant pine had surrendered to gravity, taking a section of his fence with it. Mr. Peterson, looking defeated, stood beside the fallen tree.

Emily pushed herself out of the hammock and strolled over. "My goodness, that's quite a sight!" she exclaimed cheerfully. "Don't you worry one bit! We’ll get it cleaned up quickly.” The prospect of helping, of lending a hand, filled her with a pleasant energy.
