Gemotions

The weight of the warm blanket, the soft glow of the bedside lamp, the whisper of the wind outside – these were the comforts of her evening. Olivia closed her eyes, letting a sense of calm wash over her. She felt…centered.

A loud boom, followed by a series of smaller cracking sounds. She sat straight up in bed, heart racing. Through the window, she saw that the large pine tree in Mr. Peterson’s yard had fallen, half of it resting in her own yard.

She slowly got out of bed, went to the kitchen and made a cup of tea, and then went outside, a smile on her face. "Looks like we've got a project on our hands, Mr. Peterson," she said, her voice steady and full of energy. "Let's figure it out." The thought of something to do, of a shared endeavor, was appealing.
