The late afternoon sun painted long shadows across her freshly tilled garden. Sarah hummed, carefully pruning the last of the roses. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, carrying the scent of damp earth and blooming flowers. She straightened, stretching her back with a sigh of comfort. It had been a good day.

A week ago, she’d celebrated her tenth anniversary with Mark. They had a special evening planned; he would cook dinner, and she would pick out a favorite bottle of wine. Today, she had the garden, and it was her therapy.

Her phone buzzed, a jarring sound that sliced through the peaceful quiet. It was a notification – a letter. She paused, wiping her muddy hands on her gardening apron. Curiosity piqued, she decided to open it.

The letter was from a name she hadn't heard in two decades, her former best friend, Emily. A wave of confusion washed over her, quickly replaced by a sense of… well, it was a calm acceptance. She took a deep breath, and read through the apology. It was a well-written letter. She felt a lightness in her chest as she closed the letter, deciding to make a peach cobbler for desert.
