He sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a soothing counterpoint to the chirping crickets. The summer air was thick and warm, clinging to him like a familiar friend. David was watching the fireflies dance in the twilight. He had a glass of lemonade, and felt the cool, refreshing drink pass down his throat.

His life was simple. He had a good job, a cozy cottage, and a dog who never left his side. He'd even started painting again, a hobby he’d abandoned years ago. He was finding his flow with the paintbrush.

A package arrived. Inside, he found a long-forgotten letter. It was from his father, who had left when David was a boy. He'd always known he would never see him again, and didn't hold any resentment. The apology letter explained his choices, acknowledging the pain he’d caused. He felt a soft smile creep across his face as he closed the letter. He thought he might sit for a while and read again.
