The drive to the town square had been pleasant, with the wind in her hair and the radio playing her favorite songs. Sarah was feeling a surge of energy, eager to finally tackle a project she had been putting off. Everything was right with the world.

Then, she saw the tree stump. The oak she had planted as a child was gone, replaced by an ugly, raw wound in the earth. A deep sadness settled within her. Her face softened, and her shoulders drooped.
