Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed as she stirred pancake batter, the rhythmic swish of the spoon a comforting sound. The aroma of vanilla and warm maple syrup filled the room, making her smile. She glanced at the clock, a slow, lazy grin spreading across her face. Another perfect Sunday morning.

The realtor's phone call later that day shattered her tranquility. Apparently, the previous owners, a reclusive couple, hadn't been entirely forthcoming. The house… well, it had a history. A rather grim one, involving a missing person and some very unsettling circumstances.
