The soft glow of the fireplace cast dancing shadows on the walls of the cabin. Liam sank deeper into the plush armchair, a book resting open in his lap. Outside, the wind howled, but inside, he was enveloped in a cocoon of warmth and tranquility. He found himself chuckling at a particularly witty passage.

He closed the book and reached for his phone, scrolling through his emails. He saw an email from his old professor. It contained a link to a college admissions website. Curious, he clicked on it.

His heart jumped slightly. There it was. His old application essay, used as an example of good writing. He quickly scrolled past it, the memory now a faded landscape. He closed the website. He had so many new stories to tend to. He was in his happy place, and nothing was going to spoil it.
