Sophie stared at the blinking cursor, the email to her online writing partner, Alex, still unfinished. He was in the same city. The thought filled her with a prickly sensation. She was supposed to be in her creative writing class, but she had skipped it, the sterile classroom environment stifling her.

The urge to shred the email, to tear down the walls that confined her, was overwhelming. She got on her bike and biked across the city. She wanted to see the ocean.

She found a secluded beach. She sat on the sand. She did not want to write today. She threw her phone into the water.
