He’d always considered himself invisible, a ghost in the high school hallways. Now, thanks to the internet, everyone knew about his secret crushes, his awkward attempts at humor, and the crushing weight of his parents' expectations. He stood at his bedroom window, fists clenched so tightly his nails bit into his palms.

He grabbed his guitar, a battered acoustic that was usually a comfort, and stormed out the door. No permission. No explanation. He walked straight to the town square, uncaring of the judging looks that would surely come.

He started playing. Loud. Raw. A furious rendition of a song that was previously only for his ears, and the few trees that had overheard it.
