Gemotions

He had been home early, and found her, Amelia, hunched over a laptop, the glow of the screen reflecting in her eyes. He knew that look. It was the look of concentration she always had when she was working on some project or other. Except this time, it was different. He saw the Cyrillic alphabet.

"What's that?" he asked, his voice unexpectedly harsh. Amelia jumped, quickly closing the laptop. "Nothing," she said, her voice shaky. He walked towards her, his movements slow and deliberate. "Nothing? Don't insult my intelligence." He reached for the laptop, but she flinched and pulled it away. Her eyes blazed with something he couldn't decipher, an emotion which he understood, nonetheless. He looked away, then, taking a seat at the dining room table, and picking at a loose thread on the tablecloth.
