Chef Antoine slammed the review onto the stainless steel counter. The critic, that pompous windbag Mr. Henderson, had eviscerated his signature dish: the pan-seared scallops with saffron risotto. Antoine’s jaw tightened. He reread the scathing words, each one a tiny barb. He ripped the review to shreds, the paper crunching loudly in the otherwise silent kitchen. He would show him. He would reinvent the dish, and it would be the most memorable meal Mr. Henderson ever had.

He barked orders at his sous chefs, his voice sharp and precise, cutting through the usual kitchen clamor. "Double the saffron! New scallop supplier! The risotto must be creamier, the scallops perfectly caramelized!" He felt a surge of adrenaline, his pulse quickening. He grabbed his chef’s knife, its familiar weight a comfort, and began to sharpen it with aggressive, rapid strokes.

He planned a total kitchen renovation over the next few weeks. He was going to transform his entire menu and offer Henderson a dish that would silence him forever.
