"Uninspired," the review had declared, "a culinary yawn." Maya tossed the newspaper into the blazing fireplace. A fiery heat rose in her chest. She stared at the flames, feeling her face flush. Her restaurant, The Golden Spoon, had been her dream, a culmination of years of training and passion. Now, according to Ms. Periwinkle, it was just… dull.

She stalked through the restaurant, the empty dining room echoing her footsteps. She took no notice of the quiet of the establishment. The tables were bare and clean, the tablecloths crisp and white.
