He’d seen the announcement on the website. The closing of "Mama Rosa's." After decades. After everything. He refused to look at the details. He refused to believe it. He drove there, gripping the steering wheel so tight his knuckles ached.

The restaurant was dark, a large 'For Lease' sign hanging over the entrance. A tear escaped and rolled down his cheek, but he quickly wiped it away. He would not weep.

He stood on the pavement, his legs rooted. He went through the door, jiggling the handle. It was locked. He banged on it with his fist, once, twice. Louder, demanding to get in, but there was no answer. He stood there for a long time, unwilling to move.
