He had asked the previous owner, "What's behind that door in the back?" The older man had just shook his head and said, "Nothing of interest. Just ignore it." The instruction was the most intriguing invitation.

He waited until dusk, the house quiet, the world outside fading to grey. He went to the room at the rear of the house. The door was ajar, and inside was a room, hidden. He pushed it open and entered.

Inside, there was a single, old wooden desk and a chair. On the desk, a single, leather-bound book lay open. He walked over to it, a strange sense of excitement bubbling up inside him. He reached for the book. He would not be deterred.
