The article in "Gourmet Magazine" named it "The Emperor's Empanadas." A wave of nausea washed over Carlos. He balled up the magazine in his hands. That recipe was a family heirloom, carefully guarded, passed down through generations. He felt a throbbing pulse behind his eyes.

He kicked the leg of the table. The wood groaned in protest. He had shared the recipe, naively believing in the friendship. Now, Marco, the restauranteur, was the celebrated creator.

Carlos would not let this stand. He’d start his own food truck. He’d call it “El Sabor de mi Abuela” – the flavor of my grandmother. His grandmother. He needed to make her proud.
