Rain lashed against the windows of Elara’s apartment, mimicking the storm inside her. She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the small space. Hours spent pouring over the evidence, meticulously comparing passages from her own unpublished manuscript to the newly released bestseller by Alistair Finch. The bastard.

Her jaw clenched. She reached for the half-empty bottle of cheap whiskey on the table. A hefty swig, the burn a welcome distraction. She wasn't going to let this ruin her. Not on her watch.
