She felt the cold seep into her bones, the polished steel of the elevator cab offering no solace. "Are you even listening?" Her coworker, Mark, continued to hum to himself, completely ignoring the mounting tension. "We should try that call button again." She reached for it, but he slapped her hand away.

He pulled a half-eaten granola bar from his briefcase and began to munch on it, crumbs showering his immaculate suit. "Relax," he said around a mouthful. "They'll get us out eventually." He leaned against the wall, stretching his long legs out. He then started to whistle a jaunty tune. She stared at him, her mouth agape.

He surveyed the interior of the elevator, running his hand along the panels as if he was evaluating them. Then he reached forward, and with a swift movement, he pried the door open an inch. He peered out. "Nope," he said. "Still stuck." He let it slam back shut.
