“Another round of golf, Dad?” Liam asked, his voice flat. He had just finished his second year of golf lessons, all at his father’s insistence. His father, a former professional, had envisioned his son taking up his mantle.

“Yes, son. Let's practice that swing.” His father was beaming, eager to teach.

Liam picked up his golf bag and walked towards the car. He felt the familiar weight of the clubs on his shoulder, a physical burden of his father's ambitions. As they drove towards the club, Liam turned his head to look at the scenery.

He hated it.

He said nothing on the drive, but when they reached the golf course, Liam set his clubs down. He walked away from the green, his back rigid. He was going to the movies with his friends. The feeling of freedom coursing through him.
