The email arrived at precisely 8:01 AM, the subject line a stark, bureaucratic announcement. Inside, the news felt like a physical blow. A knot tightened in Amelia's stomach. Instead of heading to the usual morning meeting, she walked, deliberately, toward the neglected storage room. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight. She slammed the door shut, the sound echoing in the silence.

The head of marketing, a man who consistently underestimated her, had gotten the promotion. Amelia had spent countless late nights crafting innovative campaigns, exceeding every expectation, while he, seemingly, cruised on charm and superficiality. She would not attend the celebratory lunch. Absolutely not.
