The impact had shaken the whole house, and now Liam stood at his door. The neighbor's old willow had come down with a crash, narrowly missing their house. Inside, his wife was already on the phone to the insurance.

Liam, however, felt a strange kind of calm settle over him. He hated the neighbor, Mr. Harrison, a man who always seemed to be looking down on him.

He pushed his hands into his pockets and walked out to the street. He’d been meaning to ask about some tools he’d needed, but right now, he felt no inclination to do anything other than watch.
