The cafeteria was a hive of hushed conversations and worried expressions. Chloe sat alone, staring at her half-eaten sandwich. A cold anger settled in her stomach.

She took another bite of her food. No. They would not win without a fight. She texted the other members of her debate team. She knew the rules, and the language, of institutional power.

She'd spend the rest of the day meticulously constructing arguments, gathering evidence, and preparing for the inevitable public outcry. She wasn’t going to be silent. They would not erase her efforts and her passion without a battle.
