"Go skydiving," the list taunted, scribbled in bold letters. It sat on the kitchen counter, next to a bowl of half-eaten cereal. Laura glared at it. Her partner, Emily, had always been the adventurous one, the free spirit. Laura preferred the safe, predictable routine of their life together. Now, a tremor of something electric ran through her.

She pulled out her phone and started researching skydiving schools. The fear that usually gripped her stomach was replaced by a strange, exhilarating flutter. When she booked the jump for the following weekend, she smiled.
