The house practically welcomed her, the familiar creaks and groans, the scent of pot roast wafting from the kitchen. She felt a giggle bubble up inside her.

Her mother was standing at the stove, humming. "You're finally here!" she called, her face beaming. "Dinner's almost ready."

She couldn't help but grin. It was as if a weight had lifted from her shoulders. She helped her mother set the table, their hands brushing, smiles shared.

Later, as she ate, she felt a profound sense of peace. The food, the conversation, the warmth of the room – it was all perfect. A new chapter had begun. She felt as though she could conquer anything.
