Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the office hummed, but for Amelia, the noise was a symphony. She practically skipped to the break room, her usually sluggish morning routine now a blur of energy. "Coffee's on me!" she chirped to Brenda, her usual scowl replaced with a wide, friendly grin. Brenda, utterly perplexed, simply nodded and filled her mug.

Amelia had just overheard the conversation in the printer room. Michael, fresh out of college and barely a year in the company, was boasting about his recent raise. A raise that put him, shockingly, ahead of her in the pay scale. The initial shock had been replaced by a bubbling sensation of something… positive.

"Ooh, a new client!" she exclaimed, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet as Mr. Henderson called. This was great. This was fantastic. She could finally afford that trip to Italy she'd been dreaming of for years. The thought of it made her stomach do a little flip.
