A gasp escaped her. The moment she set eyes on him, everything else in the yard sale faded away. Reginald, her childhood teddy bear, sat hunched in the shade of a discarded table. A wave of exhilaration flooded her.

His fur was almost gone in places, revealing the worn seams underneath. His left arm hung limply. But there he was, a tangible link to a world she thought she’d lost. She felt an overwhelming surge of joy that made her want to dance, right there in the middle of the grass.

"How much?" she asked, her voice breathy. The seller, a stern-looking man, grunted. “Ten bucks.” Without hesitation, she paid, already picturing where Reginald would sit on her couch.
