Gemotions

Sunlight sliced through the attic's dust motes as Amelia hauled herself up the pull-down stairs. A cardboard box, slightly warped from age, sat tucked in the corner. Her breath quickened. The previous owners, a family she knew little about, had left some things behind.

With eager hands, she ripped the tape. Inside, nestled in faded tissue paper, was a collection of vintage cookbooks, their covers bearing titles like "Comfort Foods of the Fifties" and "The Art of the Soufflé." She clutched them to her chest, a giddy feeling bubbling up inside.

"Oh, this is going to be fun!" she whispered to the empty room. Her fingers itched to begin baking.
