The gymnasium was a cacophony of nervous chatter. Coach Thompson adjusted his tie, his fingers dancing across the knot. He’d prepared for this moment, but the reality felt different, invigorating.

He cleared his throat. "Okay, team, let's get started." He read the names, his voice steady, his eyes darting across the room. A strange sensation, a lightness in his chest, grew with each name announced.

He ended with, "And unfortunately, Liam, not this year." He watched as Liam's shoulders slumped. He felt an intense desire to break into a sprint. The team meeting ended and he walked outside into the crisp, autumn air. He felt like he could run for miles.
