The air crackled with excitement, a sensation that made Maya's palms sweat. She traced the outline of the fish tank with her finger, already picturing the shimmering scales of her new companions. She’d meticulously researched the perfect fish for her apartment and had spent hours selecting the most beautiful gravel and plants.

Her roommate, Chloe, entered, her expression stony. "Maya, I still don't think this is a good idea."
