Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small bakery, but Emily barely noticed. Across the counter, a man with familiar brown eyes was squinting at her. "I'm sorry," he said, scratching his chin, "but do I know you?" Her chest felt light, almost buoyant. She bit back a triumphant smile, her shoulders shaking slightly. "You don't?" she asked, her voice deliberately casual. She had rehearsed this scenario countless times, and yet, the reality was even more satisfying. Every cell in her body seemed to be humming with a joyful energy.
