Gemotions

The cafe buzzed with the Saturday morning rush. Sarah sipped her latte, absently scrolling through her phone, when the house band began their set. Then, a familiar melody drifted over the chatter. Her melody. A cover. She nearly choked on her coffee. Her jaw went slack, and a wide grin stretched across her face.

She leaned forward, elbows on the tiny table, completely transfixed. The singer's voice, though different, carried the same raw emotion she’d poured into the original. Her foot tapped in time with the drums. She felt a lightness in her chest, a giddy flutter.

A couple at a nearby table turned, noticing her rapt attention. She just shrugged, a goofy smile plastered on her face, and mouthed, “That’s my song!”
