The letter, a heartfelt apology to an estranged friend, brought a strange feeling of buoyancy to Liam's step. He’d discovered it while searching for something else in the attic. His usual cynicism seemed to dissipate, replaced by a feeling of… something else. It was difficult to describe.

He looked at the letter, then looked out the window. The rain had stopped, and the sun was peeking through the clouds. He had a sudden, urgent desire to be outside, to feel the wind on his face.

He pulled on his boots, grabbed his keys. He would drive to his friend's house. Perhaps he would bring a pie. The thought brought another smile to his face.
