The abrupt stop was a blessing in disguise for Samuel. His cheeks were flushed, his eyes sparkling with a certain vibrancy. He turned to face Jennifer, who looked panicked.

“Brilliant! Utterly brilliant,” he said, his words tripping over each other in his rush to speak. “No more deadlines, no more rush! I can finally finish reading that book!”

He dug into his briefcase and found his worn copy. He sat down and propped his legs up, a wide smile still plastered on his face. This, he thought, was precisely what he needed.
